Book Eleven
The Tao of Pooh
Introduction by Robbie
The Tao of Pooh was the eleventh reading in the sequence, a brief and gentle interlude in March 2025 between Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities. After four years of great novels, this small book offered a different kind of wisdom, Taoist philosophy explained through the characters of Winnie-the-Pooh.
It is a book that can be read in an afternoon, and its lightness is its strength. Between the long commitments of Dickens and Tolstoy, The Tao of Pooh was a moment to step back, to breathe, to remember that simplicity has its own kind of depth.
There is something lovely about reading a book about Pooh Bear to one's mother. It circles back to the very beginning of all reading, to childhood, to being read to, to the comfort of familiar characters and the quiet pleasure of a story that asks nothing of you except attention.
