The Tao of Pooh was the eleventh reading in the sequence, a brief and gentle interlude in March 2025 between Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities. After four years of great novels, this small book offered a different kind of wisdom — Taoist philosophy explained through the characters of Winnie-the-Pooh.

It is a book that can be read in an afternoon, and its lightness is its strength. Between the long commitments of Dickens and Tolstoy, The Tao of Pooh was a moment to step back, to breathe, to remember that simplicity has its own kind of depth.

There is something lovely about reading a book about Pooh Bear to one's mother. It circles back to the very beginning of all reading — to childhood, to being read to, to the comfort of familiar characters and the quiet pleasure of a story that asks nothing of you except attention.
